Script to Export Certain DEVONthink Metadata in a TSV for Tinderbox Import Inter-app workflows How it’ll work with the next version of DEVONthink, I couldn’t say It’s unfortunate that it doesn’t look in the tag, as this means that note $Name won’t contribute to a positive search result – only $Text. So for example, a section of the Tinderbox XML might look like: movie It appears to only search the contents of tags, which is close to what we want. As of today (DEVONthink 2.10), DT can search Tinderbox files somewhat effectively. This has always been inconsistent for me, it seems like it changes from version to version. I’m not sure how well DEVONthink Pro can read and search within Tinderbox files… So if you rename or move the file on disk, DEVONthink loses the reference. Indexing is more fragile than importing though, because indexing is based entirely on system path. I do this if I want to use git or dropbox for version control. It’s amazing, and every application should have that functionality. Throw something in DEVONthink, sync it to DTTG, paste the item URL anywhere… I can always find the record. If something is imported into DT, then that link will always find the record even if I’ve renamed it or moved it. The x-devonthink-item:// URLs are amazing. I like to store everything in DEVONthink if I can. However, this way you lose hyperlinks (and scripting acrobat pro is very unpleasant too).Specifically, does anyone save and store Tinderbox files in DEVONthink Pro? Is this the kind of thing you are seeing? One solution would be to export the pdfs to images and then OCR those (!)… With DTPO this results in huge files, but I also have acrobat pro which is much better in this regard. (to save time, you can just read the main text and the comments by John Calhoun if you want). That may well be what is happening in your case (in my case, all pdfs from the same source have this problem, but if I open them with acrobat I can copy and paste with no problems). To take a completely random pdf file on my hard disk, I getįractionalizationindimerizedgrapheneandgraphenebilayer Try to copy the text from the pdf to the clipboard (by selecting it) and then paste it somewhere. It could be that pdfkit is having trouble with the text. Nothing shows up when I search for a word inside the PDF… OCR will convert an image-only PDF to a searchable PDF.Īll parameters are ok. If the Kind = PDF+Text, it does have a searchable text layer. If Kind = PDF, it’s not searchable you can see words in the image layer, but the PDF doesn’t contain searchable text. If you have verified that your query is formulated properly and is looking in the correct database where a PDF resides, yet it doesn’t show up in the search results, examine the Kind of that PDF. For example, if the selected string was John Doe, but you don’t want to find anything about deer, enclose the string within quotation marks. You can then modify the query using the operators and search syntax, if necessary. The Search window will open with the selection entered in the search field. Select a word or string and press Command-/. If you haven’t tried the Lookup command, give that a try. And I don’t lose my place in the document I was reading. I do all my searches in the Search window, not only because I can inspect the settings more easily, but because there are more options available in the Search window. Were you searching in the correct database where your PDFs are stored, for example? Was the query set for Name, although you wanted a Content search? Try your search in the full Search window (Tools > Search), where it’s easy to inspect all the settings for the query.
